Winner of a Civic Trust Award, the new accommodation for Roffey Park was built in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to Horsham.  Nick was project architect at ADP taking the design through planning and leading the design development of a complex of 60 new en suite study bedrooms, conference and seminar building and a new restaurant area with refurbished kitchens.  The scheme arranged the differing buildings adjacent to the existing buildings to create two new landscaped courtyards.  The residential building is influenced by the Sussex barn vernacular with oak boarding, clay tiles, and brick but articulated in a modern way with detailing expressing function and the technical requirements of timber frame construction.  The seminar building is a low single storey sedum roofed building designed to flow into the landscape and allow the landscape to be part of the seminar environment.  The building has been named The Meadow  by Roffey.  The last component, the restaurant wing is designed as an extension to the original walled kitchen garden and is a lean-to that opens up to the courtyard space.    The use of white render within the courtyards for all buildings unifies the three elements of the  composition.  The continuation of the red brick walling either side of the expressed entrance to the Meadow building, which protrudes through the gap, forms a unified external face for the new group of buildings and a continuation of the original garden wall.
