shireland collegiate academy - new entrance & new performing arts and sports centre
Delivered through the Academies programme, the new accommodation at Shirelands was developed through consultation to establish a control scheme, and then through feasibility and on to completion on site working with Interserve. The scheme targeted the deficient areas in the school accommodation. The solution was to build a new sixth form study room extension and then develop a new entrance building and a larger performing arts and sports centre. This proposal then facilitated the consolidation and improvement of the existing departments and accommodation within the school. The entrance building created a new easily accessible welcoming and distinctive principle access point for the school, improving visibility and legibility and making a statement about the new facilities in the school adjacent to the locally listed frontage of the oldest school building on site. The new performing arts centre included a tiered seating auditorium with drama studio/ green room behind the stage area and dance studio. Music rooms and an IT and AV immersive learning plaza completed the accommodation. Adjacent a new learning support unit was completed with a behaviour management suite and also a new three court sports hall and new changing facilities. Nick was lead architect and project partner for this project whilst at adp. The project won the 2015 Built in Quality Award in the education / academy section.
